Hugh O’Neill was born in the historic city of Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1959. He studied painting at the University of Ulster in Belfast, Ireland from 1981 to 1985. He spent some of that time studying in Nante and Paris, France. After graduating with honors in 1985 O’Neill traveled to France, painting for a time in and around the towns of Nice and Antibes. In a prolific display of artistic virtuosity he also continued to travel throughout Ireland capturing the vitality of the landscape on canvas after canvas. He emigrated from Northern Ireland to Florida in the early 1990s. He immediately found success with a one-man show at the Butler Gallery on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, in which all paintings sold in the first night and day of the show. He was recently honored with a major retrospective show of his work at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Jupiter.
